Purchasing makeup should be fun without hurting your checking account. All you need are some great shopping tips so you get the best deals on the cosmetics you want.

Buying makeup can really add up. However, beauty on a budget can be done. Here are some fun, cheap ways to get your beauty on a budget.

  • Experiment with samples: Many cosmetic companies will send makeup samples to potential customers. You can even request samples through the cosmetic companies' websites such as Mary Kay Cosmetics and Vital Radiance.
  • Get a facial: Going to the department store or calling your personal beauty consultants is a great opportunity to try new products, update your look and experiment with something new.

By getting a facial and experimenting with samples you can try products before you spend money on them.

  • Watch TV or read a magazine: Companies pay a lot of money for advertising and inside these magazines are usually a special or a gift with purchase, sometimes even a free sample. So watch TV, don't tivo or flip through the commercials, you might be missing the beauty deal of the century.
  • Get to know your favorite Cosmetic Company: What do you know about your favorite cosmetic company? Do you know if your cosmetic company has a guarantee on its products? Do you know your makeup girl behind the counter? Knowing a company benefits both people. By developing a relationship with your makeup guru she will most likely share future specials, news on products and include you on the mailing lists (which always has an awesome deal inside).
  • Shop with a list: Just like going grocery shopping, a cosmetic need list will prevent you from purchasing the same eye shadow that is buried in your cosmetic bag. Do a makeup inventory prior to shopping day. This way you will know exactly what your needs are and will prevent emotional purchases. Don't want to take the time to write a list? Grab your makeup bag and take it with you.
  • Home-based business cosmetic companies: Shopping with an independent consultant of a home-based cosmetic company is a great way to save money. You can host a party in your home or online and receive free or discounted products. Also, many self-employed business owners are looking to expand their business so sharing referrals will usually mean a discount.
  • Just ask: No matter where you shop, if you purchase a large sum of cosmetics or you are a loyal and regular customer, ask for a discount. Occasionally, many companies will oblige but never take advantage of this service. They might say no, but it never hurts to ask.

Remember, if you do purchase a cosmetic and hate it, ask for a refund or an exchange. It might surprise you when a company refunds your $20 bucks for that too dark of lipstick you purchased the day before. Cosmetic companies want their consumers to be happy, happy customers purchase more and tell friends.
