Can Make up Change a Person?

The other day I was flipping through the channels and I came across a movie I could watch over and over again, The Breakfast Club. I don't know what it is about that movie. Is it because in the 80's every girl wanted to be Molly Ringwald? The amazement of what Anthony Michael Hall looked like compared to the hotness that he is now...seriously who would have ever guessed that? Maybe it is because of Emilio Estevez, I know no guys looked like that in my high school! Who knows. But I enjoy it every time. But that night while I was watching, a new thought came to me. It was during the scene when Molly Ringwald takes Ally Sheedy under her wing, cleans her up a little bit, and puts some make up on that grungy girl. Don't you remember when she walks out and Emilio Estevez about wets himself? I love that part. But it makes me wonder...can make up change who we are? Wasn't Ally still the basketcase, dandruff girl? Did the grossness go away just because Molly put some mascara on her?

Can make up change a person?

Think about the new FX series, Black. White. Here they are using cosmetics to change two families into completely different races, therefore changing who they are.

It is not as obvious of an answer as one might originally think. I have taken a "Plain Jane" before, taught her a little make up tips and have seen a completely different person come forth. A woman who has a little bit more confidence, a woman who wants a little more out of life. Would that woman of stayed hidden away if no one showed her how to put on some make up? What do you think?
