Women, Makeup and the Office

How necessary is it for women to wear makeup to work? It is an endless debate for professional women every where.

I personally am a strong advocate for all women to wear cosmetics (I know, shocking!). What I have found over my years of working with women who do not wear makeup, a majority of them have never been taught how to do so. Makeup can be very simple or very complex. That is why I love it! There are many amazing things you can do with cosmetics that will completely transform your appearance. However, not everyone needs or has the time to spend on makeup. So the best option is to learn some quick, easy techniques that work for you.

Some businesses are now requiring women to wear cosmetics to work. A few years back a woman sued Harrah’s Casino after being fired for not wearing cosmetics. Harrah’s had started a new policy, “Personal Best” and required bartender, Darlene Jespersen, to comply with the policy within 30days. She decided to not do so and was fired. Shortly after, Darlene Jespersen sued the casino. Harrah’s Casino won the court case. Is this fair? Should women be required to wear cosmetics to work? Or should it be left up to us?
